Ian Bennitt joined Ball Janik LLP in 2007 and serves as Manager of Government Affairs for the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the U.S. trade association representing the shipbuilding, ship repair and shipyard supplier industry. In this position, he focuses on government relations issues including maritime policy, commercial markets, labor, energy and environmental matters. He manages congressional advocacy and represents the SCA before federal agencies at every stage of the regulatory process. Mr. Bennitt also acts as SCA’s liaison to industry coalitions and national alliances with industry partners, OSHA and the EPA.
In addition to his SCA position, Mr. Bennitt provides general regulatory affairs and advocacy support to the Government Affairs practice.

Prior to joining Ball Janik, Mr. Bennitt was the Editorial and Research Coordinator for the Environment, Technology and Regulatory Affairs Division of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. In that capacity, Mr. Bennitt worked closely on a variety of federal and state energy, natural resource and environmental issues.
Mr. Bennitt is a 2012 MPA candidate at American University’s School of Public Policy. He is a member of the OSHA Steering Committee of the National Association of Manufacturers and the Marine Field Service Advisory Committee of the National Fire Protection Association. He is also on the Board of Governors of the Propeller Club for the Port of Washington, DC.
