Ball Janik LLP Attorneys Justin D. Leonard and Daniel R. Webert Named Firm Partners

Ball Janik LLP has announced that attorneys Justin D. Leonard and Daniel R. Webert have been elected Partners of the firm, effective January 1, 2012. Both attorneys are in Ball Janik’s Portland office.
Justin D. Leonard joined Ball Janik LLP in 2005. His principal areas of practice are bankruptcy and creditor rights. Mr. Leonard regularly represents bankruptcy trustees, regional banks, and other creditors and business debtors in litigation and workouts. He has successfully pursued undisclosed assets and fraudulent pre-petition transfers, recovering over $750,000 in fraudulent transfers alone for the benefit of bankruptcy estates’ creditors. He also has litigated dozens of civil actions against borrowers and guarantors in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, obtaining millions of dollars in money judgments for the firm’s clients. Mr. Leonard has been recognized by his peers as an Oregon Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. In November 2010, he was featured as one of Oregon’s “Up and Coming Lawyers” by the Daily Journal of Commerce.
Mr. Leonard has been active in many bar and community service organizations. In 2009-10, he served as President of the Multnomah Bar Association Young Lawyer Section. His current activities include serving on the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar Debtor-Creditor Section, as a board member and regular volunteer for the Legal Aid Services Pro Bono Bankruptcy Clinic, and as a board member for Oregon Lawyers Against Hunger.
Mr. Leonard earned his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2003, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Small and Emerging Business Law and was a member of the Cornelius Honor Society. He earned his B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University in 1998.
Daniel R. Webert joined Ball Janik LLP in 2008. His practice focuses on residential and commercial construction litigation and the representation of community associations. He is an integral member of the firm's regional and growing national practice emphasizing design and construction defect claims. As a litigator, Mr. Webert has participated as primary counsel in numerous multi-million dollar construction defect cases, including residential, multifamily and commercial buildings. He also represents community associations as their general counsel.
Mr. Webert is a member of the Litigation and Tort and Insurance Sections of the American Bar Association, and the Construction Law Sections of the Oregon and Washington State Bars. He is active in the Oregon and Washington chapters of Community Association Institute (CAI) and Oregon Washington Community Association Managers (OWCAM). Mr. Webert was recognized by his peers in Oregon Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in Construction Litigation for 2011.
Mr. Webert earned his J.D. cum laude in 2003 from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as Executive Editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. He earned his Honors B.A. in Political Science from Oregon State University in 1998 and was awarded a graduate fellowship to continue his studies at the City University of New York in 1998-1999.
